Plott, a native of WNC, whose family has been in the region for close to 300 years, and originated the official state dog of North Carolina—the Plott Hound — is the author of six books, hundreds of magazine articles, and was a 2016 recipient of the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, as well the 2023 Mountain Heritage Award presented by WCU.
